My name is Nicole Hawkesford, and I am a translator based in North Cornwall.
I primarily translate between French and English, but I also speak Spanish. My passion for languages emerged at a young age and since then, in addition to French and Spanish, I have variously studied Russian, Greek, Polish and Chinese!
However, it takes many years to gain functional command of a language, and I was fortunate enough to attend bilingual schools. As a result, I have been studying French for over 15 years now – but since languages evolve like everything else, lifelong learning will mean I’ll be studying it for many years to come no doubt.
After graduating with 1st class honours in 2010, I had already known for at least a year that I wanted a career in languages. I immediately turned to the jobs pages, virtual and physical – but after months of hunting to no avail, I realised there must be another way.
Thus Awendan Translation services was born; with in-house translation positions declining over recent years, working as a freelancer is the way to go. Fortunately for me, business acumen runs in the family, so I’m confident that Awendan will grow (with a lot of hard work and perserverance) to fulfill my career aspirations.
